How my internship at Jack & Grace has shaped my career path

Alejandra recently joined Jack & Grace for an internship and supported us with partner communications, strategy meetings and consumer research. We loved having her with us. Find out more about her time with us and how it’s shaped her career plans below. Over to Alejandra!
My name is Alejandra, and I’ve been an intern with Jack & Grace for almost two months. Finding an internship can be intimidating, you’re constantly comparing yourself to others, stressed over often unpaid and inaccessible opportunities advertised on LinkedIn and Indeed. My experience with Jack & Grace was the complete opposite. From day one, I felt confident, supported and genuinely part of the team.
I reached out during my final year of university, hoping to gain experience in the communications field with a company whose values aligned with mine. I sent an email with no expectations, and to my surprise, they not only responded right away but showed a genuine interest in who I was and what I hoped to do. Although they already had an intern for that summer, they stayed in touch and worked with me to find a time that would work. When I was later accepted into a master’s programme, we agreed to push the internship to the following summer, allowing me to focus on my studies and feel secure knowing the opportunity would still be there. That flexibility and support continued throughout my time. With remote work and flexible hours, I was able to complete the internship while also working on my dissertation and a part-time job.
Throughout the internship, I had the chance to work with various team members on different accounts, campaigns, and projects. A typical week involved completing assigned tasks, checking in with those leading the account or campaign, and staying connected through the Teams chat and weekly catch-up calls. While remote working can sometimes feel isolating, the team’s fun, engaging and supportive culture made a big difference, it felt like being part of an office, even from home.
I’ve been able to explore many aspects of the industry, including carrying out consumer and partner research, working with clients, and creating social media content. I also had one-on-one workshops to learn about search engine optimisation, which was completely new to me and a highly valuable skill in comms! While some tasks felt like a challenge at first, I feel much more confident in my skills now.
One standout moment was participating in a client communications workshop, where we worked together to develop and refine their strategy. This unique experience gave me real insight into what it’s like to work directly with clients and how strategic communications plans are built in practice. Another highlight was supporting in the development of an agency-led campaign, reaching out to like-minded organisations for their support. It was a great introduction to partnership building and campaign communications.
This internship has made me confident that I want to pursue a career in communications, ideally with organisations that are purpose-driven and making a real impact. One key takeaway is that working in this industry can be both empowering and meaningful. I’ve gained valuable knowledge, practical experience and a new sense of confidence in myself. I’m now feeling more prepared and excited for what the future holds.
