Still hiding salaries? #SayThePay
Salary secrecy fuels workplace inequality. We’re campaigning to change that.
Why Say the Pay?
When salaries are kept secret, people doing the same job get paid different amounts – it’s unfair and leads to inequality.
Pay inequality hits hardest for those already held back – women, people of colour, older workers, and those from lower-income backgrounds.
And the problem is widespread. Our research shows 41% of people in the UK have found their colleague to be earning a different salary for doing a similar role (March 2025).
The good news is there’s a fix: include salaries on all job ads.
You wouldn’t accept this kind of evasiveness from, say, an ice cream vendor, so why tolerate it from an employer when the stakes are higher?
Say The Pay
Wall of Fame
Thankfully, lots of employers are setting the standard for pay transparency in the UK.
By sharing salaries on their job vacancies, they’re stamping out pay inequality one role at a time.

FAQs
What is salary transparency
Salary transparency means being upfront about pay – including salary ranges for job roles, pay scales, and open criteria for pay decisions. It helps reduce pay gaps, builds trust between employers, employees and future recruits, and ensures fairer treatment across teams.
Why does salary transparency matter?
When pay is secret, unfairness thrives. People end up doing the same job for different salaries – without realising it. This disproportionately affects women, people of colour and other marginalised groups. Being transparent helps level the playing field.
What are the benefits of salary transparency?
For businesses:
- 64% of people would be put off by a lack of salary transparency on job ads (Jack & Grace, March 2025)
- It improves retention – employees are more likely to stay when they know pay is fair. Companies with transparent policies see lower turnover rates (PayScale’s Retention Report, June 2023)
- It builds trust and strengthens company reputations (Harvard Review, ‘The Unintended consequences of Pay Transparency, 2022)
- It reduces legal risks (Harvard Review, ‘The Unintended consequences of Pay Transparency, 2022)
- And it boosts work productivity (Harvard Business School, Is Pay Transparency Good? March 2023)
For employees:
- Over half (56%) of people in the UK would happily disclose their salary with colleagues if it meant reducing pay inequality (Jack & Grace, March 2025)
- It empowers fair negotiation
- It reduces pay discrimination
- It increases trust, job satisfaction and motivation
